Tribute to Rosie Bistoquet, a caring nurse and politician who gave so much to Seychelles
By Lewis Betsy
I would like to pay a personal tribute to the life and work of Rosie Bistoquet, a member of the Seychelles National Assembly, whose life has ended so tragically.
Rosie Bistoquet, 62 and a mother of two, devoted more than two decades of her life to the health sector, serving as a nurse and midwife before representing the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) ruling party in the National Assembly.
Among her many other roles, past and present, she was chairperson of the Committee on Communicable Diseases, HIV/Aids & SRH, and played a notably active role in the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.
President Wavel Ramkalawan was among the dignitaries who attended the funeral service at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where her contribution to the nation’s life was acknowledged.
Bernard Georges, leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, told the mourners: “She was a woman who always worked hard to make the health sector a priority. She was brave and stood for all her principles.”
National Assembly Speaker Roger Mancienne said: “We can see from her career and professional life that she was always doing what was right.”
Seychelles Life deeply respects Rosie Bistoquet’s work and legacy. She did so much for the people of Seychelles. She dedicated her whole life for her country and the people.
We offer our sincere condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.
Rosie Bistoquet’s death is being treated as murder. Her daughter is being detained by the police.
