I wish you a peaceful Christmas and hope we can celebrate 2024 as a year of harmony

Seychelles Life would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
It has been a terrible time for those hit by the floods and then the massive explosion in Mahe.
My heart goes out to all involved and I hope the recovery will be swift and give the victims comfort.
It has been a fractious year in Seychelles politics and the emergence of a new party has stirred the pot even more.
There are, I fear, too many dissenting voices, not enough cohesion.
I just wish that the energy generated by the politicians in all the parties could be channeled into one good cause, namely the unity of our beloved country.
Speaking of which we are still waiting for a final decision by the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission (TRNUC).
I know that it is important that we get every detail right, but there is an unavoidable impression that the Government is dragging its feet because of the money involved.
After all this time the victims – and I am among them – deserve justice and closure. I hope there will be a favourable outcome in 2024.
One other thing.
In December, I celebrated my 73rd birthday with my family. It made me realise how lucky I was to have the love and support of such beautiful people.
It also made me think on how Seychelles, a small dot of islands in the vastness of the Indian Ocean, is really a big family too.
We love, we smile, we quarrel and we have different opinions, but really we share everything we have together in a place rightly called paradise.
We should appreciate that and celebrate it every day… and ensure that from this point on we work together in harmony for a future that will benefit everyone.
It can happen if each individual puts their heart and soul into it.
Have a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous and happy New Year.
