Former Minister Alain St.Ange on top awards panel for tourism
Seychelles tourism expert Alain St.Ange was part of the awards panel that declared Sharm El-Sheikh the Tourism Capital City 2024.
The former Tourism Minister for Seychelles who now heads his own tourism consultancy firm, was at the celebrations in Egypt when the award was presented by the African-Asian Union (AFASU).
He said he had recently met Major General Khaled Fouda, the South Sinai Governor, who at the ceremony was presented with the AFASU Gold Award for "Man of the Year" for his “exceptional contributions” to the development of Sharm El-Sheikh as a premier tourist destination.
Mr St.Ange said: “I had the honour of sharing a podium with the Governor at another event and saw a person who never missed the opportunity to go after what would be good for Egypt and the people of Egypt as he displayed his unconditional love for his country.”
Mr St.Ange was on the awards committee with Dr Jens Thraenhart, the second Vice Chair of the UNWTO Affiliate Members Board and now the founding Partner of Chameleon Strategies and Theodore Koumelis, the founder and Managing Director Travel Daily News.
The three tourism experts were part of the AFASU team headed by its President Dr Hossam Darwish and Major General Hossam Badr El-Din, Secretary General.
“It is with great honour and privilege that we gather here today to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable achievements in tourism development in Sharm El-Sheikh, the City of Peace,” the three declared after the awards ceremony that saw Egyptian Ministers, senior Government officials join with private sector business and tourism trade leaders in a packed banqueting hall.
AFASU’s mission is “to promote and reward policies and best practices that drive tourism, economic prosperity, and community development”.
